How Consistent Exercise Changes You Immunity

February 6, 2017 By Milen Gala

I’ve stumbled upon something. Something that made me consider/reconsider how much, how hard and how regularly I exercise. Last August I started on a 6-7 days a week exercise plan. Monday-Sunday as consistently as possible. 6 months later not only did my body see big changes but so did my immunity – in a way I never considered it would.

Every fall I tend to get a little sick. Nothing major but maybe a cold, or mild flu for a couple of days. I haven’t taken antibiotics in about a decade so that’s a good thing but having 2 young kids in the house there are always viruses floating around when the weather is cooler. And obviously when one of them gets sick who do they sneeze and cough all over? Mommy!

This year has been particularly bad. And I’m not just saying in this house but in the entire country. Hospitals are packed to the rim with flu patients. People are getting sick left and right and illnesses are lasting for weeks not just days. Both my kids and husband have gone through at least one bad viral bug. Fever, nausea, vomiting…. and yet somehow between exposure to them and the consistent pre/grade-school environment (as I’m at school working on things several days a week) I have avoided getting even the slightest of sniffles. …

How to Make Delicious 1-Minute Green Smoothies

May 4, 2016 By Milen Gala

Blended green smoothie with ingredients on wooden table

Every day I have a green smoothie for breakfast…

Watcha got there? How’d you make that? Always one of the first great questions I get asked! Well, it’s a pretty simple, and always tasty, combo: leafy greens + fruit + water … and maybe some fancy additions if I’m in the mood. It may seem like a crazy breakfast fad, but honestly once you try a green smoothie, you’ll more likely to become insanely addicted! Trust me, there is nothing better than sipping handfulls of fresh, leafy greens in a delightful fruit fusion fashion. Right?

There are a lot of complicated and fancy green smoothie recipes out there, but I’m here to show you how to blend up a really simple and tasty green smoothie for breakfast every morning in about 1 minute flat. That’s way faster then toasting that bagel and making that cup of coffee you’re used to in the morning!

Not to mention, dark leafy greens are packed with disease fighting antioxidants, contain high-quality amino acids, important minerals, vitamins, and beneficial phytonutrients. They give you loads of energy, clean plant protein, and keep your skin clear and your system regular. They even help you lose bloating, and pounds!

Now, all you need is a great blender (it’s worth the investment!) and lets get to it, super fast! …

A Practice That Is Changing My Life…

January 13, 2016 By Milen Gala

meditation

Today’s post brings you to something very personal, near and dear to my heart. It’s something that I have been thinking about writing about and sharing with you for days now. It’s something that I have been practicing for over a month and it has led to some subtle shifts that are creating a profound impact on my everyday life.

I have known for many years that my yoga practice was not entirely complete. While I have been practicing the asanas for over a decade I was missing some vital components of the true essence of what yoga really is and what it hopes to bring into our lives. I think many of us think that yoga is just postures, movement and breath work, and in essence, it is. The asanas keep us flexible, ground us to the earth and let us feel as if we are opening up to the universe, but asanas only get us so far……

Eating for Lasting Energy and True Beauty

May 13, 2015 By Milen Gala

Closeup portrait cute blond girl sitting in outdoors restaurant and having breakfast, eating fresh vegetables salad, luxury healthy eating concept

Now that we have talked about what the perfect foods are to eat, for weight loss and beauty, let’s talk a little about why these are the perfect foods to eat to create true energy and lasting beauty.

To start with, your body does its part naturally by working towards maintaining the perfect balance internally. Your cells and systems continuously cleanse themselves throughout the day and especially as you sleep at night. But how does your body work to maintain this perfect balance? By digesting the things you eat, and turning that into energy.

So what does this mean for health, greater energy and beauty? It means that digestion is the key component to maintenance and healing and the biggest secret to obtaining true beauty and radiating pure energy. …

My Journey To Health and Beauty

May 7, 2015 By Milen Gala

iStock_000041768970_MediumNow that you have the perfect recipe for cleansing, whether it’s for a week or ongoing, I’m going to give you a little background on how I came to realize that this was the perfect way to cleanse and detox the body, infuse nutrients, and literally change your cells, one by one, from the inside out… leaving you with tremendous energy and truly radiant beauty. But a little warning before we begin: this is a personal story.

It was about 3 years ago, a year or so after the birth of our second child, that I started to chronically feel tired and rundown all the time. I was about 6 months postpartum, and after running 4 times a week, breastfeeding, semi-dieting every day, and doing yoga on my days off from running, I had finally gotten myself back down to my pre-pregnancy weight and size. But I was tired (even though my baby had been sleeping through the night for a while now), I wasn’t eating the best (even though it was low-fat) and generally just didn’t feel so great, so I knew something wasn’t right. …

The Skinny On Juice Cleansing and Weight Loss

April 29, 2015 By Milen Gala

Cold-Pressed-JuicesI know many of you have been asking me to do this post! It’s one of my favorite topics to cover and I know you have lots of questions about it. But before you make any assumptions, a word of caution, because I’m probably not going to say exactly what you might be expecting to hear, but let’s jump right to it!…

We’ve all heard of the new detox diet, the ultimate way to shed pounds quickly without compromising our health, avoiding unhealthy eating habits, and even dangerous, pills and diet drinks (like fen-phen, slim fast, low carb, high protein and the like), while at the same time obtaining squeaky clean insides, beautiful skin and a lean physique all by drinking 3 to 6 massive glasses for cold-pressed juices a day and nothing else.

Well, I know many of you have or want to try it, and why shouldn’t you? Juice cleanses promise fast results, shedding up to a pound a day. And do they work? Yes, you can most definitely lose up to 7 pounds in a week on the cleanse. I have done it, and almost everyone else who has will attest to it as well.

But, what if I told you that cold-pressed juicing might not be the best way to do a cleanse and reset the body…. Okay, yes, that’s is what I’m telling you. So, if your only goal is to lose weight, by all means go ahead, but for those of us who want to both lose weight and keep it off, eventually moving into healthier eating patterns, I’ll let you in on a little secret… there is a better way, a much better way to do it……

The Biggest Mistake We Make When Trying to Lose Weight

April 21, 2015 By Milen Gala

Woman with doughnutI’ve spent several years now studying nutrition and, if there is one thing I have learned, it is this: You can live on processed, low-calorie, low-fat foods and diet sodas for a little while but eventually your body will be so toxic that you’ll find it hard to keep your energy up and the weight off. I’ve seen this time and time again; people who have tried every single diet out there, yet they can’t maintain a slim physique. They cut the carbs, count every calorie, ban desserts, use artificial sugar in everything, and spend their lives writing down every food they have consumed. This type of dieting is simply a complete waste of time. Sure, you might lose a belt or dress size or two but eventually, because you body is so out of balance, you will regain it all back.

Why? You ask. It’s really quite simple. Nature did not intend for us to eat this way. Our bodies are not designed to eat this food. Processed, chemical-laden foods have only existed in modern society. Man made food-like substances top the category for largest number of foods on grocery store shelves, and all of it, it’s not only stripping us of our health and beauty it’s slowly blowing us up as well.

When you eat these types of foods your body treats them as foreign substances and begins to store toxins.
The Nemours Foundation describes body toxins as “a chemical or poison that is known to have harmful effects on the body. Toxins can come from food or water, from chemicals used to grow or prepare food, and even from the air that we breathe. Our bodies process those toxins through organs like the liver and kidneys and eliminate them in the form of sweat, urine, and feces.” It’s the accumulation of these toxins that are the single greatest contributor to weight gain[i].
